Another new recipe: http://www.myitaliansmorgasbord.com/2012/07/27/mixed-seeds-knackebrod-swedish-crackers-for-the-daring-bakers/ from a great website/blog.
It is a yeast dough but rolled very thinly and baked immediately. I tried plain ones with caraway and nigella seeds in the dough and the more coloured ones had an egg glaze into which I rolled some more seeds. I think these look better and have a great flavour. Suspect cumin seeds would be another good one. Easy and quick to make and very good with cheese. Would make a great Christmas gift.
Seems everyone wants to learn to bake bread. Maybe it is the Great British bake off effect? We are also getting a lot of bookings for families: Sisters and Mother or Mum, Dad and children which is great. Also teenagers very confident with cake baking but want to try their hand at bread. Our Seasonal bread evenings are also filling up; two booked in Late November/early December so if you do want to impress friends and family with some amazing bread over the holidays, please book soon.
Our bread is now available from the Black Barn farm shop in Hare Street near Buntingford on Saturdays and Jo is regularly selling pesto swirls, spicad apple and marzipan swirls, Turkish Pidé bread as well as garlic and rosemary, focaccia etc. She also has some great meat direct from the farm as well as cheese etc. and there is a cafe next door.
Despite the almost constant drizzle we had a great time at Barkway market, 22 June and had over a dozen delicious cheeses from the Cheeseplate, Buntingford and a wide selection of bread. Our love buns and caraway and raisin knot rolls were particularly popular.
Gearing up for Barkway market this Saturday, 10am to 4pm. It was postponed last year and then cancelled so we are hoping for good weather this time. We shall have a good range of our bread including love buns, sourdough and bacon slices as well as a fourteen cheeses from The Cheeseplate, including some unusual ones. We shall also be selling Chicken pickings, a feed supplement and training aid developed by my Brother and selling like hot bread! There are over 100 stalls as well as entertainment (Royston Town Band etc). Look forward to seeing you.
Baked a Barra brith/Barmbrack combo for Daughters birthday which went down well. Have found using self raising flour in the flour paste makes the lettering stand out/up!
Kates’ birthday bread!
Sandon market this Saturday then the big one 22 June: Barkway market, 10-4pm with over 120 stalls. Just hoping for good weather. We shall be selling bread and cheese as well as our famous tiffin and birdseed bar. Hope to see you there.
Our display at Sandon market last Saturday. Hot Cross buns went like, well, hot cakes/buns and we sold out of some of the cheeses too. Bread still available each Saturday at The Cheeseplate in Buntingford and we are back at Fowlmere 13 April and Sandon on 20th. Have a great Easter.
